Student Alerts & Referrals

The Center for Student Academic Success invites you to be our partner in helping students who are struggling or in distress by letting us know about students for whom you have concerns. Please read through the types of referrals listed below (Academic Alert, Student of Concern, Peer Mentor Referral).

Students of Concern

A Students of Concern form should be submitted for non-academic related concerns, such as:

  • Mental or physical health concerns
  • Change in behavior
  • Social, family, or personal issues
  • Alcohol and/or drug use

Further details can be found on the Students of Concern web page.

Emergency situations should be directed to Public Safety at 401-254-3333.

Academic Alerts

The Academic Alert program is designed to allow faculty and staff to refer students for academic support. Early intervention is key to student success and enables referrals to positively impact the student experience. Alerts can be made at any point in the semester, but the earlier the student meets with an advisor, the better chance they have of resolving the issue at hand. For questions regarding academic alerts, contact Liz Niemeyer, Director of Advising & Peer Mentorship, at eniemeyer@rwu.edu.

Who can generate an alert?

  • Faculty can raise an alert for student(s) on their course rosters.
  • Faculty advisors can raise an alert for advisee(s) on their advising roster.
  • An advisor from the Advising & Peer Mentorship Office can raise an alert for any student.

Who should be referred?

Any 麻豆色情片 student can be referred. If the student is demonstrating a pattern of behavior (i.e. excessive class absence, not turning in work, etc.), an Academic Alert should be generated. Refer students for the following reasons:

  • Low attendance (3+ missed classes) or stopped attending
  • Missing or late assignments (3+ missing work)
  • Unsatisfactory performance in coursework, assessments
  • Lack of engagement
  • Student is unsure of educational goals and/or major
  • Student is having difficulty adjusting
  • Concerns about Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
  • Student is considering withdrawing/transferring/taking a leave of absence*

How does the process work?

Please view academic alert instructions in the dropdown menu below!

What happens next?

The Advising & Peer Mentorship Office will arrange a consultation meeting with the student. An advisor will then take the following measures:

  2. Assist the student in developing an action plan for improvement;
  3. Refer student to campus resources as appropriate;
  4. Encourage the student to meet with a faculty member regarding the concerns.

Are Academic Alerts Replacing Academic Referrals?

Again, instructions are available in the drop-down menu below!
