�鶹ɫ��Ƭ

Dave has worked at �鶹ɫ��Ƭ since the early 1990’s, teaching all levels of writing courses, including day, night, and online, as well as being a Faculty Tutor at the Writing Center for more than twenty years.  In class, he believes in active learning, using a variety of collaborative activities that require students to learn by doing and by teaching each other.  He also stresses examples, supplying his own models to each writing assignment, because he wants to show students clear and specific essays, letters, and reports, as well as to highlight that writing is important to him.  

Dave has been published in dozens of publications, from the international magazine Animal Wellness, to a Boston-based music magazine (What’s New), to local weekly papers in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.  He is also the author of the “Matthew Diggerson Mystery” series (published through the Cozy Cat Press): Rules to Die By (2016), Planning to Die (2017), Marked for Murder (2018), The Dart of Persuasion (2019), Ominous Outcomes (2020), and Beginnings and Endings (2022).  The series involves a composition teacher forced to turn sleuth due to murders at a New England college campus that the �鶹ɫ��Ƭ community might almost recognize.  In 2023, CCP published a seventh book in the series, Read to Me, which involves not only Digger, but his own fictional character, Billy D Wilder (it’s a book within a book).

Besides writing for all of those public audiences, he has narrowed to professional readers, too, including a peer-reviewed article, “Grammar Jam: A Creative Editing Tactic,” in the Prompt  (2018); a chapter (“Generating Ideas with Visuals”) in the WTNG 225 textbook (2022); and a peer-tutoring manual for �鶹ɫ��Ƭ’s Writing Center.

Dave has also taught writing to a variety of students, from the traditional �鶹ɫ��Ƭ Bristol students, to more experienced ones at Community Colleges (Cape Cod CC), in night classes (URI, UMass-Lowell), and in online courses (�鶹ɫ��Ƭ).  He was the first writing teacher to create an online class and the only one to be given those courses every semester since (over twenty years!).  Dave has even taught art students at RISD, whose focus and dedication reminds him of �鶹ɫ��Ƭ’s architecture majors.  Enthusiasm is Dave’s favorite quality in students.
